Soldier Hollow offspring top at BBAG Yearling Sale 2016
It is the year of our standout sire Soldier Hollow—in all respects! 27 yearlings sired by our In The Wings-son entered the sales ring today at the BBAG September Yearling Sale, one of the highlights during the one-week meet called “Grosse Woche” in Iffezheim.

Of all yearlings by Soldier Hollow, a Röttgen-bred filly named Egoistin was leading the way and required her purchaser Jamie Railton, who was acting on behalf of Manfred Ostermann of Ittlingen Stud, to reach deep into the pockets to get the call on her. €300,000 went over the table for this half-sister of the third-placed in the Gr.3 Ittlingen Derby Trial, El Loco. Renowed Röttgen Stud also consigned Winston, the first foal of Gr.2-placed Wilddrossel, half-sister to Gr.2 winner Wild Coco and daughter of Röttgen’s top mare Wild Side. Winston went to Jeremy Brummitt for an undisclosed client for €250,000. The growing international interest in Soldier Hollow-offspring was met by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, which has purchased several horses by our sire in the past. This time, they paid €240,000 for a colt named Accensus, who was bred by Schlenderhan Stud out of the Monsun-mare Astilbe, who produced a series of Listed-winners and is a right sister to champion three-year-old Arcadio. Mark Richards of the Hong Kong Jockey Club had only praise for offspring by our sire. “They are ideal, as they are sound in mind as well as of limb. Owners in Hong Kong tend to buy every two or three years, so we don’t want horses that are here today and gone tomorrow.” (BBAG Newsletter, 02.09.2016)

By the end of a long day at the auction ring, purchasing a yearling by Soldier Hollow lifted you straight into the top of the sales stats, as 22 yearlings by Soldier Hollow had sold for a whooping €1,481,000, averaging €67,320 per Lot. Interesting to note also that this was the first year in which Soldier Hollow’s son Pastorius introduced his first crop to the buyers, selling 8 yearlings averaging €34,250, which makes for a promising future as a grand-sire on record.
