Eight fillies met in today's G2 Diana-Trial in Hoppegarten, which was sponsored by Park Wiedingen stud's owner Helmut von Finck and appropriately named after our 2016 champion sire, and the race almost saw a winner sired by Soldier Hollow. Almost.
Roettgen stud's 2016 champion 2YO WELL SPOKEN made her annual debut in the €70,000 G2 challenge over 2000 m with Adrie de Vries aboard. And the Soldier Hollow-filly ran a gamely race from the lead, fought hard down the stretch and even looked like the winner for a moment, but had to succumb to TUSKED WINGS (Filip Minarik), who triumphed by a short head. The filly trained by Jean-Pierre Carvalho for Ullmann Stables placed fourth in the race Well Spoken won to become champion 2YO. The Peter Schiergen-trained LITAARA passed the post as third with Andrasch Starke in the saddle for Haus Zoppenbroich Stud.
