Today, Wiedingen-bred WAI KEY STAR by SOLDIER HOLLOW reported back to action at group level with an impressive performance in the €55,000 63. Preis der Sparkassen Finanzgruppe at Iffezheim.
The fourth-placed in the German Derby of 2016 was patiently brought back to his old form after a break by trainer Sarah Steinberg and, after making himself known again with good placings in the past months, he thanked connections today with a fantastic victory. The five-year-old son of our top-mare WAKYTARA entered this G3 challenge under Betrand Flandrin and found quite a few aspects going in his favour. The rain-kissed turf and a trip off the pace were probably to his taste, so when reaching the final stretch, the colt jumped ahead and challenged the highly favored Va Banks to a goosebumps finish in the last two furlongs. And Wai Key Star showed much gut and heart and secured his spot in the winners circle by a short head after 2000 m.
With this G3 win, the colt gave his sire, our champion SOLDIER HOLLOW, the thirteenth Stakes-success this year!
