Three-year-old and older fillies and mares met in the last hightlight of the Grosse Woche, the €25,000 Berenberg Cup (L.) at Iffezheim today, and two progeny of our champion SOLDIER HOLLOW cut a great figure in the race and earned Black Type status.
In a field of twelve brimming with talent, the three-time winner from Switzerland, SANORA, settled slightly off the pace under Nicolas Guilbert and the three-year-old protege of Christina Buchner took to a gutsy finish down the stretch and gave the winner a run for her money. All the while, unbeaten SERENA (photo) came rolling from the back of the pack and had jockey Carlos Henrique and trainer Hans-Jürgen Gröschel wish for an extra hundred meters to the 1800 m race. In the end, Sanora was three-quarters of a length behind the winner and Serena followed a neck length behind, and both fillies delivered a fantastic performance. |
