SOLDIER HOLLOW's VIRGINIA JOY third in G1 German Oaks
Fifteen hopefuls of thoroughbred breeding met today to compete in the
162nd running of the G1 German Oaks, the €500,000 Henkel-Preis der Diana run over 2200 m, to crown the queen of three-year-old fillies in Germany, and the field has rarely been characterized by such a high performance density as this year.

Since her victory in the G3 Mehl-Mülhens-Trophy three weeks ago at Hamburg, Gestuet Auenquelle's VIRGINIA JOY has been considered one of the top contenders for the title and the SOLDIER HOLLOW daughter definitely confirmed this assessment today. The slow pace of the race did not work in the filly's favor, but thanks to a fantastic late speed attack VIRGINIA JOY finished the fillies classic with an excellent third place. The post could have come a little later for her, as it was only a nose between the two placed horses and three quarters of a length to the winner. Adrie de Vries was aboard for trainer Marcel Weiß.
